Welcome to Garage Ballet!! Dancers always look forward as we train for the next performance, but this year has been difficult. There… I’ve said it.
Nutcrackers have been cancelled, professional dancers furloughed, companies’ futures are in question, Covid and the restrictive controls of masks and social distancing have caused even regular classes to look and feel very different.
This is a time and place that I sincerely hope we will never have to revisit again.
Performing artists live a precarious existence. Dancers train for future ability yet are required to maintain proficiency in the present. Ballet demands a here and now focus.
As we contend or even battle with current restrictions, I would like to remind everyone that regular life events often interrupt our ability to take class and rehearse for performance. Prepare yourself!!
A move to another city, the death of a family member, a pregnancy and the birth of a new child, financial concerns that must be addressed. There are many times in our lives when our passion and pursuit of ballet will necessarily be placed on pause…
Just remember that it is possible to start again. Never give up. Wait out the time as best you can and be ready to return. When taking class or teaching class is impossible, you are NOT any less a dancer.
From personal experience, I know that it is possible to start over. As the saying goes… Will it be easy? No. Will it be worth it? Absolutely!!
Stay Strong!! We are going to make it through this year even if it kills us!!
